I don’t know if anyone’s noticed or not, but we’ve been very busy here at GrowTraffic over the last few days updating the content on our website and it’s not the only change that’s in the pipeline.

As SEO Consultants who specialise in SEO Copywriting and Content Marketing, we’re acutely aware of how important having the best content on your website is but, unfortunately, we’ve been so busy working on our client’s SEO strategies that we’ve never update the GrowTraffic website for decades. Well, it feels like decades anyway. 

 

Tired and Faded

We are, it’s true, but there’s no need for the website to be tired and faded too! Our trusty website has been with us in its current form, more or less, since GrowTraffic first set out its stall in 2009 and it has served us well over the past 5 years. In that time, we have been beavering away for a host of clients, improving their SEO campaigns and growing their online presence, whilst quietly building our own little SEO empire.

However, we have recently come to realise that, whilst our attention has been focussed on improving other people’s websites, ours has been slowly slipping into the realm that internet time forgot.

 

Well No More!

We’re putting our foot down and have decided that from now on, GrowTraffic is going to practice what it preaches; we’re going to re-energise the website from the bottom up.

Even the most virgin of internet users can tell by just a cursory glance at the GrowTraffic website that the graphics are dated and that the content, changed piecemeal as our offices have moved and our company has evolved, is patchy at best.

The fundamental design of the website is sound and very effective from an SEO perspective but the business has changed considerably in the last 5 years and the website needs dragging up to reflect this. Specifically, the look and feel of the website needs to be updated and the content needs to be re-written and re-optimised.

 

The Basics of SEO

As we’re always telling our clients, and as anyone with even a basic grounding in the fundamentals of SEO will know, the secret to having a successful website is not a black art; to succeed today – and by that I mean to rank high in the search engine results pages – you simply have to have a website that is better than your competitors.

Admittedly, that’s not always as straightforward as it sounds, we’d be out of a job if it were, but making sure that you have a website that is eye-catching , interesting and easy to use is a start. The good news is that that doesn’t mean it has to be expensive, even the most basic of WordPress websites can rank on page 1, but it does need to be filled with amazing content and it needs to be added to frequently.

 

Taking on the Giants

Obviously, whatever sector your business operates in will determine how competitive your market is, some are much more competitive than others, and so beating the competition is a very subjective goal. As you might expect, the world in which GrowTraffic operates, that of SEO, Web Design, Online Marketing and the like, is possibly one of the most competitive that there is; GrowTraffic is fighting for air time with search giants such as Moz, Search Engine Watch and Search Engine Land (if you’ve never heard of these sites then trust me, they’re big!).

Now we’ll admit that we’re never going to be in the same league as those guys, we’d be foolish even to try; we have neither the budget nor the resources, but we are offering similar services. The beauty for us, and for our customers, is that we do it on a much smaller scale and on a freelance basis, hence making it affordable for the average small to medium business owner.

Regardless of that, the upshot is that GrowTraffic has to have at least passable design and exceptional content if it wants to run with the big guns and, at the moment, we’re a good way off. Granted, out content is good, even if I do say so myself, but it needs to be great

 

Bringing in the Builders

And so, for the last week or so, we have been re-writing the content on all pages of the website to make sure that they are consistent across the whole site and that the information is up to date, relevant and interesting. The new pages have been uploaded to the site over the last few days and are now live and we’ll be continuing to add to these over the coming months.

In addition to the content, we’re going to start work on updating the design of the site to give it a fresher feel and to make it more appealing and easy to navigate.

As we go along, we’ll also be increasing the site’s search engine optimisation to make sure that we reclaim the top ranking positions for our chosen keywords. After all, we can’t very well convince our future clients that we can achieve position 1 in Google if our own site is languishing on page 3.
