Converting website visitors is simply getting a user to do what you want them to do! For example, a retailer may want a visitor to make a purchase. A B2B service provider may just want the user to get in touch. If your website aims to provide resources, then you may want visitors to read certain material first.

You get the picture – you set a goal and then try to get visitors to reach them.

No matter what the goal is, there are some simple things you can do to maximise your chances of converting web traffic. Not only is this useful to you (because customers = money!), but you will also be helping potential customers get what they need, faster.

Here are 5 tips to help you convert traffic…

Create Clear CTAs

What do you want your website visitors to do? If you want them to visit your store, get in touch or read a guide, you need to make it easy. A Call to Action (CTA) is a simple way to direct people in the direction you want them to go. A CTA is usually displayed as a button and stands apart from other content as being a clear action a visitor can take.

Introduce Yourself Properly

People like to buy from people – even if your business doesn’t have a single representative – your content, tone of voice, and style need to convey who you are as a business, what you offer, and how your customer will benefit.  If a website visitor can clearly understand the who’s, why’s and what’s in a split second, then they are more likely to become a customer.

Show Off Your Customers

Nearly every type of business can use customer testimonials. Letting website visitors know what your other customers think is a great way to encourage them to buy or get in touch. You can add testimonials in long-form via case studies or by adding a third-party review score, such as Trustpilot. Ideally add both!

Give Social Proof

In addition to providing an address and contact details, many website visitors expect to see what is known as ‘social proof’. Displaying your social media channels gives users another way to connect with you, get to know your business and see what others think of you. Ensure your website provides clear links to your social media channels.

Make Visitors Feel Secure

An instant turn off for a website visitor is a website which feels ‘spammy’. Ensure you instantly come across as credible with an up-to-date security certificate, privacy policy, and policies detailing points such as returns, shipping and payments. Nobody is going to buy from you or want to use your service if you don’t feel trustworthy.
