What Is Facebook Ads Manager?
Facebook Ads Manager is an all-in-one tool that allows you to create and manage Facebook ads. It also allows you to run analytics and track how well your ads are doing.
It can be accessed via the website or you can download the Facebook Ads Manager App onto your smartphone or tablet. Through your Facebook Ads Manager account, you can create ad campaigns, target specific audiences, optimise and manage your ad campaigns and track the performance of your campaigns.
Plus, several people can gain access to your Facebook Ads Manager account and can create and manage ads on your behalf. This is useful if you have several employees or if you are outsourcing your social media marketing to a freelancer or digital marketing agency.
The good news is, you don’t have to be a marketing whizz to use Facebook Ads Manager. With a helping hand from us (and maybe a little bit of trial and error), you can become an expert at creating and managing Facebook ads!
Facebook Ads Manager vs Facebook Business Manager
OK, Facebook loves to confuse people. When teaching clients how to create Facebook ads, we always have questions about Facebook Business Manager vs Facebook Ads Manager. So, before we go any further let us explain…
Facebook Business Manager is Facebook’s platform for managing all of your Facebook business needs. Once you have created a Facebook business page, you can log in to Facebook Business Manager and find everything you may need to run your Facebook Business Page. This includes your business page settings, activity, messages, ads, insights, billing, and events etc.
If you haven’t yet created a Facebook business page, you can create a Business Manager account first and create a business page through there.
It is an excellent tool if you have more than one ad account, several business pages, or if numerous people need access to the Facebook business page.
Facebook Ads Manager, on the other hand, is just one of many features housed within Facebook Business Manager. Yes, it has its own platform. But it is still apart of Facebook Business Manager – and can be accessed via Facebook Business Manager.
How Do I Set Up Facebook Ads Manager?
You don’t actually have to set up a Facebook Ads account (as it is part of your Facebook Business Manager account).
Although your ad account is automatically set up, you will need to confirm/edit your information on the ad account setup page and add a payment method. Without a payment method, you will not be able to run an ad. This is relatively easy to do by following the instructions given.
You can also create an account spending limit, which ensures you never spend more than you want to. You will be billed monthly, or when you have reached the spending limit you have set.
There are two ways to access your Facebook Ads Manager account. You can head to Facebook Business Manager and log in using your Facebook login details. Then hover over the panel on the left-hand side and click “Ads”. Once you click on this, you should see a link to take you to Facebook Ads Manager.
Alternatively, you can head straight to Facebook Ads Manager and login there. You can create ads through Facebook Business Manager, however, if you want to manage your ads and track your campaigns, we recommend getting familiar with Facebook Ads Manager.
Facebook describes Ads Manager as the “starting point for running ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network”.
How Do I Create And Manage A Facebook Ad Campaign?
Creating a Facebook ad is easy with Facebooks ‘Guided Creation’, which is a step-by-step wizard that walks you through the creation of a Facebook ad campaign. There are six steps to creating an ad:
- Choose the objective of your campaign. What do you want to achieve with your Facebook campaign? Is the objective increased Facebook engagement or brand awareness? Or is the goal to increase web traffic and get conversions?
- Choose your target audience. As a business owner, you should be familiar with who your target audience is. Facebook allows you to narrow down your potential audience to people who will be interested in your product/service.
- Upload an Ad Creative. This is a visual, such as an image, video, graphic or carousel that you want to accompany the ad text. Top Tip – ensure your Creative is consistent with your brand and with the message you are sending out.
- Write the ad text. You should then write short and snappy text that includes relevant information about your product or service. Ensure the text lines up with the aim of the ad. For example, if your Facebook ad is focused on a deal you are running, ensure the text reflect the details of the deal.
- Set your bid amount. The bid amount will vary depending on several factors including your ad budget, audience and placement.
- Finalise the details. Proofread your ad (twice!) and preview it. Don’t run the add unless you are 100% happy with it.
Once your ad is running, you can monitor it via Facebooks Ads Manager. Facebook’s real-time reporting allows you to keep a close eye on how your ad is performing. If the ad is not doing as well as you wanted, you can review and tweak aspects of it, such as the audience and ad placement.
To get the most value from your Facebook ads, you need to be monitoring them closely.
Top Tips For Managing Your Facebook Ads
It wouldn’t be a GrowTraffic blog if there weren’t some top tips now, would it?! These tips will help you become a Facebook Ad expert:
Count Sales Not Clicks
If the metrics are looking positive and your ad is getting a lot of attention and clicks, it may appear that the ad is doing its job. But if you aren’t making any sales, then there is a problem. And you shouldn’t ignore it.
Waiting it out, or ploughing more money into Facebook ads may not fix it. Instead, changes may need to be made. You may want to alter your website landing page, adjust the audience you are targeting or tweak the visual for example.
Try And Try Again
As with any marketing technique, Facebook ads should involve a little bit of trial and error. Your very first ad is just a stepping stone towards a well-rounded Facebook ad campaign. Until you run your first few ad campaigns, you will have no idea what works and what does not. There are various elements to an ad that can be switched-up until you find the elements that work well.
Once you have a better understanding of what works, you can incorporate this knowledge into your future ads, and soon, you will have a successful campaign that is meeting your objective.
Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Video
Video content is the way forward – a bold statement to make, I know. But in my opinion, it’s the truth. People love videos. Facebook algorithms love videos. And video could be the best way to stop your target audience from scrolling right past your ad.
If you have brand-related videos, USE THEM for your Facebook ad campaigns!!! You will thank us later.
Tailor Facebook Ads For Mobile
It just makes sense. The majority of people use Facebook on their phones rather than their desktop. Plus, ads that have been tailor-made for mobile devices will translate better to desktops better than if you did it the other way around.
Don’t Make Assumptions
Facebook is truly a world of its own. When coming up with ideas for Facebook ad campaigns, you will likely have assumptions about which ideas will perform better than others. Whatever assumptions you have – forget about them.
Sure, you know your product/service better than anyone. But when it comes to Facebook ads, your opinion doesn’t really matter. The only way to truly know whether an ad will work is to try it.
Hire A Professional
Social media marketing is not as simple as people assume. If you can’t get the hang of it, or you simply don’t have the time, perhaps it is best to outsource your Facebook ad campaigns?
