North Sourcing SEO
Here at GrowTraffic we’ve worked with businesses from all over the world. We’ve helped out businesses throughout Europe, Australia, the USA, Israel and South Africa, however, most of the businesses we work with are in the UK and whilst we’re based in the North West and South Yorkshire, we work on a surprisingly large number of websites from businesses based in the Greater London area.
If you’re a London-based company you may have heard about the benefits of north sourcing various tasks, with SEO and content being a digital marketing channels that are particularly well suited to being north sourced.
What is North Sourcing?
North sourcing is a form of outsourcing carried out by London-based businesses which can be defined as:
“Obtaining goods or services by contract from an outside supplier, which is based in the North of England or even anywhere north of Greater London’s hinterland.”
In the 1990s, Peter Drucker told businesses that they should: “Do what you do best and outsource the rest.” Drucker argued that businesses should only subcontract those areas in which it didn’t have a speciality
Why would companies in the South want to outsource to the North?
There are many reasons why businesses need to outsource their business’ activities, and north sourcing offers many advantages.
In general, the reasons a business would outsource include:
- Reducing costs.
- Controlling operating costs.
- Focusing company.
- Securing world-class capabilities.
- Freeing up internal resource.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of outsourcing to the North is the lower costs Northern businesses are often able to charge over their Southern competitors. Whilst there have been many attempts to outsource activities to other countries, a Northern business provides workers with similar levels of educational and cultural background and crucially, English as their first language.
These are qualities that are likely to make north sourcing SEO particularly advantages for southern businesses, as employing a high degree of English literacy – combined with SEO expertise – can make a huge difference in the way a website is ranked by search engines. And there shouldn’t be a difference in the knowledge of an SEO consultant in Lancashire than an SEO consultant in London.
It also goes without saying that content creation and content marketing activities require a high degree of English literacy. I’m sure we’ve all read articles and then questioned if they’ve been written by an English speaker. Not only does this provide a poor experience for your users, but it can also negatively impact the perception of your business’ brand. Both of which can indirectly have a negative impact on your website’s ranking.
