John Lewis & Partners
Would the build up to Christmas and the festive period be the same without a John Lewis ad? Hell no!
John Lewis never fails to create a touching Christmas advert that brings a tear to the eye. It’s something that people look forward to every year (Including me). John Lewis has reinvented their Christmas ads every year since hitting our screens in 2007, and there has been plenty of memorable moments to choose from.
Some of their best Christmas ads have been those presenting children’s stories, such as 2017’s Moz the Monster and 2013’s The bear and the hare. The latter really represents the formula that they have perfected over the years; a simple yet moving story backed up by an understated cover of a popular song.
Aldi – Kevin The Carrot
The supermarket has done an impressive job of competing to win the hearts of the UK shoppers. Kevin the Carrot has been on our screens every Christmas since 2016. Over the years, Aldi has introduced us to the full family, and this year’s advert sees Kevin making the epic journey home to spend Christmas with his family.
The festive advert reminds us that Christmas without Kevin just wouldn’t be the same. This year, their tweets started out by teasing the return of Kevin with the hashtag #WhereIsKevin.
Last, but certainly not least is Coca Cola. Another advert like John Lewis & Partners, one in which I wait for my eyes to witness on TV at Christmas at single year.
This festive heart-warming commercial has got viewers all choked up. With the traditional Coca-Cola truck tour cancelled this year due to the pandemic, the advert has not taken the usual ‘holidays are coming’ approach. Instead, viewers are told: “This Christmas, give something only you can give.”
The messaging this year is a simple one, as Coca-Cola explains: ‘This Christmas, give something only you can give. Be it in person, over an awkward video call, or just a quick message, making time for the ones you love is what makes Christmas truly the most special time of year, no matter how you do it.”
